Laser Hair Reduction School FAQs

Laser hair reduction has quickly become one of the most popular cosmetic laser treatments on the market. Last year over 1 million treatments of laser hair reduction were performed just within the United States. Because so many clients are seeking out laser hair reduction treatments, many health and beauty professionals are seeking out laser hair reduction school.

For many, this brings up a variety of questions. That’s why we’re here to provide a guide that answers some of the most frequently asked questions about laser hair reduction school.

What are the requirements? Do I have to be an aesthetician?

In most states, you do not have to be an aesthetician to enroll in a laser hair reduction school. You do need your high school diploma or GED. However, there are a few states that do require you to be a medical professional to perform any kind of cosmetic laser. It’s important to check your own state’s regulations before enrolling.

How long does it take to complete training?

With National Laser Institute’s comprehensive laser program, you’ll be laser trained in just two weeks with some of the most in-demand laser treatments. However, they also offer a laser hair reduction course, which, as the course name hints at, has a strong focus on laser hair reduction. Both of these courses include a laser safety officer certification as well as clinical, hands-on training with a variety of state-of-the-art cosmetic lasers.

When can I start treating my own clients?

It depends on your state’s requirements, but typically if you meet all your hours you can begin right after you are finished with your laser training education.

What is a laser technician’s salary?

This can be a little hard to answer because there are a lot of variables to consider: location, services offered, your own business versus working for someone else, working at a luxury spa versus a discount spa, etc. Typically laser technicians may earn anywhere from $15 – $25 an hour with or without commission.

Where can I work?

National Laser Institute’s graduates have gone on to work for doctor’s offices, medical spas, dermatology clinics, salons, and have even started their own businesses. As a laser technician, you have tons of opportunities to bring laser hair reduction services as well as other cosmetic laser services to various types of clients.

Where can I receive laser hair reduction training?

National Laser Institute offers a combination of both in-classroom and clinical, hands-on training with scheduled clients. Students receive real-world experience by practicing with state-of-the-art cosmetic lasers. Our classes are kept small in order for each student to get the personal attention they need in both the classroom setting as well as the clinical environment.

National Laser Institute goes above and beyond for their students. We offer our graduates access to our online medical aesthetic library, which is the largest medical aesthetic library in the world! Here you’ll find everything from equipment information, case studies, relevant books and articles, as well as information related to starting up your own business!
