Taking a Closer Look at Medical Esthetician Schools and Medical Estheticians

What is a Medical Esthetician?

medical estheticianA “medical esthetician” can be defined as someone in the medical field who gains certification in practicing cosmetic or esthetic medicine. However, esthetic medicine does not include plastic surgery for esthetic enhancement. Instead it involves noninvasive esthetic treatments that can include laser hair removal, Botox, IPL photofacial skin rejuvenation, dermal fillers, radiofrequency skin tightening, and much more.

  • A medical esthetician’s duties may or may not include:
  • Treating wrinkles and the scars
  • Improving aging in the face, hands, low neckline
  • Treating pigmentary spots and blood-vessels
  • Prevention of body aging
  • Laser tattoo removal services

A medical esthetician generally is not treating clients who are ill. These clients typically want to improve their appearance through esthetic medicine–Botox, laser, etc. However, a medical esthetician may treat clients who have suffered pain or been hospitalized in the past. This can include treating or filling scars from a fire, accident, injury, etc.

Medical estheticians can be trained to perform any of the following.

  • Botulinum toxin (Botox cosmetic)
  • Dermal filler injections (soft tissue fillers)
  • Chemical peels
  • Cellulite control
  • Laser hair removal
  • Many different laser skin therapies
  • Esthetic vein treatments

Medical Esthetician School and Training

medical esthetician schoolAlthough medical professionals have spent years obtaining their medical status in school, they do need to undergo another training program in order to become certified in aspects of esthetic medicine. Luckily, it doesn’t take years to complete this type of training. Medical esthetician schools offer courses that can range from one weekend to two weeks of comprehensive training.

National Laser Institute is one of many medical esthetician schools in the nation, but unlike the rest NLI is the leader in the industry and has been around for over a decade. We offer certification to MDs, DOs, RNs, NPs, LPNs, and more, providing them with hands-on clinical training with state-of-the-art laser equipment as well as a variety of cosmetic injectables (Botox, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and more). Attendees will experience hands-on training with clients within a retail medical spa setting and learn from instructors who have been in this field for years.

If you’d like to learn more about medical esthetician schools or more about NLI’s courses, simply fill out the form on your right or call us at 1-800-982-6817.
