New ASDS Report Releases Top Dermatologic Treatments Performed in 2014

laser training

Although dermatologists primarily deal with client’s skin health, they are also capable of performing nonsurgical cosmetic skin treatments for patients as well. A new ASDS report reveals the top treatments dermatologists performed in 2014:

  • Laser/light/energy-based procedures: 2.06 million
  • Wrinkle-relaxing injections (such as Botox): 1.75 million
  • Soft-tissue fillers (such as Juvederm): 1.01 million

Laser hair removal is an example of one of the 2+ million laser/light/energy-based procedures. It’s also been reported as one of the fastest growing treatments with a 27% spike in services since the last year. Laser hair removal uses light and energy to target unwanted hair follicles, zapping them to prevent them from regrowth.

Clients are also becoming increasingly aware of crow’s feet and other wrinkles around the facial area, including sagging skin. Botox (1.75 mil) and dermal fillers (1.01 mil) were some of the other higher performing treatments that dermatologists provided for clients last year. Both are capable of rejuvenating the face. Botox smooths fine lines and wrinkles while dermal fillers help plump wilted areas of the skin (such as hollow cheeks or lips).

Unfortunately, though, skin cancer has been increasing each year. This is something dermatologists are committed to helping prevent as well as treating.

The rise in these nonsurgical treatments has been increasing over the last decade. With our fast-paced society, clients do not have time to waste seeking treatments that require intense amounts of downtime. Botox, dermal fillers, and cosmetic laser treatments all offer rejuvenating results with no recovery period.

Many aestheticians, cosmetologists, and people who want to get a head start into a career in skin rejuvenation don’t realize that it’s not only dermatologists who can perform these nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. In most states, if you have earned your GED or high school diploma, you’re qualified to enroll in a cosmetic laser training course.
