Add WOW To Your Laser Technician Resume (And Things To Leave Off)

Med Spa Resume

Whether you’re creating your resume for the first time or updating an old one, it can be tough to make it stand out. There isn’t one specific formula, but there are general rules and guidelines to follow along with specific ways to “wow” your prospective audience which can help you land that laser technician job, especially in the medical aesthetics industry. Whether you’ve just graduated from cosmetic laser school or have been a cosmetic laser technician for years and are searching for new employment, here are 10 things to add the “wow” factor to your laser technician resume along with some things to leave out.

10 Ways To Add Wow To Your Laser Technician Resume

1. Make Your Template Easy On The Eyes

Bright colors or flashy images can be overkill. Keep your resume clean, organized, and naturally sectioned. Some color can help it stand out, but stick to black body text overall.

2. Skip The Novelty Fonts

Save Comic Sans for elementary school. Business News Daily recommends clear, professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, Garamond, Georgia, Times New Roman or Trebuchet MS, sized at 11 or 12 pt. Anything smaller could be a headache to read, and anything bigger looks sloppy.

3. Showcase Your Highest Accomplishments First

In the top third of your resume, lead with your best, most relevant achievements. Increased revenue 150% in a month as a laser technician? Say so. New to the field entirely? Mention that you trained at the leading cosmetic laser school in the nation, performed at the top of your class, or have hands-on experience with dozens of different laser brands.

4. Unpaid Experience Counts Too

If you interned at a medical spa or managed a laser clinic’s social media following, include it — it shows real experience in the industry, paid or not.

5. Spice Up Your Adjectives And Verbs

Don’t be a broken record. Swap repetitive phrasing for variety: “Excels at,” “Promoted for,” “Expert in.” An online thesaurus can help if you’re stuck.

6. Mirror The Job Description’s Keywords

If a listing says “must love interacting with clients,” echo that sentiment in your own words — never copy and paste directly, but let the description guide your phrasing.

7. Keep Bullet Points Short And Sweet

Long, dragging sentences lose your reader. Instead of “As a cosmetic laser technician I’m familiar with cutting-edge laser technology and can demonstrate safety techniques,” try two short bullets: “Familiar with cutting-edge laser technology” and “Successfully demonstrates laser safety techniques.”

8. Flaunt Your Skills, Even Unexpected Ones

Don’t be modest. Fluent in another language? That shows you can serve a wider range of clients. Trained on a brand-new acne-targeting laser? Mention it.

9. Use Sentences That Solve Problems

Show you’ve overcome real challenges: “Used a combination of chemical peels and MicroLaserPeel technology to successfully reduce clients’ acne scars.”

10. Nix The Clichés And Be Creative

“I think outside the box” and “I’m a true team player” may be true, but they’re tired. Find a fresher way to say it.

Bonus Tip:

Have a friend or family member proofread before you send it off. A fresh pair of eyes catches what you’ve read past a dozen times.

Things To Leave Off Your Laser Technician Resume

You’ve graduated and know everything there is to know about cosmetic lasers or injectables. Before you send your laser technician resume off, keep these six things off it:

1. Really Personal Information

This is a resume, not your life story. Skip your age, race, marital status and hobbies. None of it proves you’re qualified for the job.

2. Salary Requirements

Save this for the interview or offer stage. Listing a number upfront could cost you an interview over a company that would’ve offered incentives or commission you didn’t know about.

3. Irrelevant Work

That volunteer shift at an animal shelter in 10th grade doesn’t belong here. If you don’t have medical esthetic experience yet, that’s fine; describe your previous responsibilities in a way that shows why they make you a strong fit.

4. GPA

It’s irrelevant on a resume. If an employer wants your academic record, they’ll request a transcript.

5. Your Reason For Leaving Past Jobs

Save it for the interview if asked. Don’t use resume space by volunteering it.

6. Demands

Full-time only? Your own workstation? A stocked coffee bar? Keep it off the resume. Instead, save those questions for the interview itself. Asking about the company culture and typical hours shows genuine interest, not entitlement.
