Meet Heather

Before attending the National Laser Institute cosmetic injectables program, Heather worked as a Registered Nurse distributing medical devices in doctors offices for vitamin and antibiotic IV infusions. Once Heather graduated, she was eager to learn and practice her skills.

“Especially the hands-on, I wanted more, I just wanted to keep practicing. It was so fun, it didn’t feel like work to me,” said Heather.

When asked which cosmetic injectable or filler was the most fun, Heather explained she enjoyed the filler because it felt like an art form. “The design is in the placement, figuring out where the client needs more or less to achieve their desired look,” explained Heather.

Why Aesthetic Nursing?

Heather always had an interest in the beauty industry. In addition, she has always liked to make people feel better about themselves, and to give them more confidence in their beauty.

Heather wondered in the back of her mind how she could blend her love for beauty into a career. For that reason, aesthetic nursing was the perfect choice for Heather to do what she loves and pursue her dream career.

What’s Next For Heather?

Louis asked Heather what she saw for her future; Would she open her own practice as an entrepreneur or would she work for someone else and gain some experience? Heather described her plans to work for someone else to get some good, solid experience and training. After that, who knows what else is in stock for Heather. Best of all, she does not want to limit herself: she’s open to anything and everything. Heather just wants to continue with her passion: to do injectables and aesthetic medicine.

Hospital Patients vs. Medical Spa Clients

Louis asked Heather to describe the difference in treating patients she works with in the hospital versus the clients she works with in the medical spa. To illustrate, Heather replies that its not even comparable.

“In the hospital setting, most of the time they are there because they have to be there, not that they want to be there.” In contrast to patients in a med spa, “The difference to me with the patients that were coming in is that they wanted to be there, they chose to be there…it was their decision, this wasn’t forced, so they were excited. They couldn’t wait ’til you could get your hands on them.”

Heather illustrated the difference perfectly. Clients want to receive treatment in the medical spa.  In contrast, patients in the hospital often don’t want to be there.  In other words, clients sign up for medical aesthetic services happily and are excited to undergo the experience. In short, Heather prefers to practice happy medicine.
