Trending Injector Procedures Then And Now

Medical aesthetic procedures like laser skin rejuvenation and cosmetic injectables are only increasing in popularity and we’ve got the numbers to back it up. Botox alone was projected to reach sales of over $3 billion nationwide and the broader medical aesthetics industry was projected to reach $21 billion by 2024. In 2022, injectors performed approximately 3.9 million botox treatments in the United States and that number only continues to grow. 

In 2022, top trending injector procedures also included Juvederm for volume restoration, Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) for total skin rejuvenation and PDO threads for tightening and lifting.

1. Juvederm

Juvederm injections were one of the top trending injector procedures for 2022 with dermal fillers continuing to offer a great way to restore lost volume and correct moderate to severe wrinkles. 

Juvederm fillers come in several types, including VOLBELLA XC, VOLUMA, Ultra Plus XC, and Vollure XC. 

What problems can Juvederm address specifically?

• Under Eye Hollows: With aging comes volume loss in the infraorbital hollows (under eye). Deliver fresh, vibrant results with FDA approved Juvederm VOLBELLA X, designed for improving tone and volume in the infraorbital hollows. 2. Platelet-Rich Fibrin

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), a type of platelet-rich plasma, is another top trending procedure over the last 4 years, offering benefits for total facial rejuvenation and often used in combination with other injections or treatments.

PRF is a muti-use procedure that can diminish acne scars while also staving off signs of aging like fine lines and wrinkles. PRF is commonly injected into facial wrinkles, folds, and the under-eye area to add volume and tighten skin. 

PRF is also used as an enhancement to fillers in the tear trough, nasolabial folds and lips and to complement the rejuvenating effects of microneedling.

3. PDO Threads For Lifting And Tightening

PDO thread lifts rounded out the top trending procedures for 2022 and still continue to be popular today. PDO threads are made using an absorbable material called polydioxanone, which is thinner and more comfortable than the older non-absorbable nylon versions, creating lasting results long after the threads have dissolved. 

The PDO thread lift options now include monofilament threads (subtle lifting, treats fine lines), cog or barbed threads (increased lift by stimulating collagen and fibroblast production) and screw threads (restore facial volume for a sleeker V-shape).

A Market Fueled By Every Generation

Turns out, the desire to look good isn’t exclusive to one generation. According to Yahoo Finance, cosmetic surgical procedures grew 7% overall, but procedures among patients age 65 and older surged 24%, showing the fastest growth of any age group. 

Millennials have also become an emerging force in the market too, having grown up in an age of social media and influencer culture that has shifted how an entire generation thinks about beauty and youth. Many are even using Botox as a preventative treatment in their twenties, aiming to keep fine lines from deepening before they start.

With more medical spas opening across the country and job opportunities growing right alongside them, treatments like Botox are becoming available in doctor’s offices, medspas, day spas and niche boutiques which is a level of accessibility that would have seemed unlikely a decade ago.

What Clients Want To Know

A recent SheSpeaks™ survey of roughly 2,000 women found that 54% wanted to know how much Botox costs. According to Ashlee Penix, Client Services Manager at National Laser Institute Med Spa, “Botox is administered per unit… Botox is typically $9 to $12 per unit, which may total between $450 to $600 or more for treatment,” depending on the areas being treated.

Safety was another top concern, with 36% of women surveyed expressing worry. According to a JAMA Dermatology study, less than 1% of Botox, filler and laser patients reported minor adverse events like bruising or swelling, with no serious adverse events recorded — Botox is a very safe treatment when performed by a trained medical professional. 

Another 18% of women worried about achieving natural-looking results from Botox. As Penix explains, “When performed by an expert medical professional who’s had Botox training and is more than familiar with facial anatomy, you can expect to receive rejuvenated results.” 

It’s worth noting estheticians and cosmetologists, while familiar with skincare, cannot legally perform cosmetic injections; only trained, licensed medical professionals can.

The session then moves into hands-on training covering upper- and lower-face injection techniques. 

Dermal filler education includes an overview of filler types, indications and contraindications, along with a marketing seminar and hands-on training focused on treating folds, wrinkles and lip enhancement.
