How to Join The Aesthetic Nursing Field

Aesthetic nursing is an ever-expanding industry, as clinical and emergency nurses alike take the leap into the field of medical aesthetics. According to healthdigest.com, “In 2021, the facial fillers market’s value was over $5 billion…by 2029, chances are, the market value will have skyrocketed to almost $9 billion.” With this in mind, there are many reasons for this trend. For instance, as aesthetic injectors, nurses can utilize their knowledge of facial anatomy to provide safe and effective treatments.

In addition, nurses are uniquely positioned to understand the importance of maintaining a natural-looking appearance post-treatment. Finally, aesthetic nursing requires significant training to become a safe and effective injector. There are many resources available to help nurses learn to inject facial fillers safely and effectively. With the right training, nurses can become skilled aesthetic injectors who provide patients with beautiful, natural-looking results.

Four Steps for Injecting Facial Fillers

  1. Firstly, the aesthetic nurse will evaluate the client’s facial appearance and skin tone. As well as that, the aesthetic nurse will examine the areas of the face that need to be augmented to achieve the desired effect. With this in mind, aesthetic nurses can use strategic pinpointed marks on the client’s face to map out the injection sites.
  2. Second, the marked injection sites are cleaned with an antibacterial agent. To anesthetize, aesthetic nurses can use a cold instrument to chill the area, numbing it without an agent.
  3. Third, the facial fillers are injected. The actual injections of facial fillers or neurotoxins is quite fast. In fact, injections only take a few seconds per injection site. Once the filler is injected, the site is massaged and reevaluated. With this in mind, reevaluation determines if more filler is needed to achieve the desired effect.
  4. Finally, once the aesthetic nurse is finished injecting the filler and the desired effect is achieved, the nurse will cleanse the face.

Knowledge of Facial Anatomy

Aesthetic nurses use their knowledge of facial anatomy to exactly pinpoint where to inject and how much to inject. Due to this, they can anticipate the reaction of the injection based on knowing the action of the muscle.

Pucker-Up!

Lip injections of Botox and filler are incredibly popular in this time and age. For instance, they range from changing the size or the positioning of the lips. With this in mind, there are three major movements of the lips.

Rounding-Spreading

The term, rounding or spreading, of the lips refers to when the corners of the lips are drawn together or pulled apart. With this in mind, rounding is achieved through the action of the orbicularis muscle.

The orbicularis muscle is the muscle that surrounds the lips, encircling them. As well as that, the orbicularis muscle is a sphincter muscle, which means that the band of muscle fibers constricts around an opening.

Protrusion

With this in mind, protrusion of the lips refers to the lips being pushed forward. This movement also makes the vocal tract longer. As well as that, the movement of the lips, and protrusion, rely more on the lower lip than the other.

Vertical Compression

The movement of the lips known as vertical compression is where the lips come together through the raising of the lower lip. With this in mind, vertical compression can occur without movement, or rounding.

Build Trust and Credibility

Moreover, your work as a nurse has already added to the trust and credibility you possess. An aesthetic nurse must be highly competent in their work. For instance, aesthetic nursing requires working with fillers and neurotoxins. Due to this, aesthetic nurses must be incredibly meticulous, determining how much of what to inject and where to inject to achieve the desired effect.
