Laser Technician Training

Cosmetic Laser Overview

Laser technicians create a career within the medical esthetics industry, performing cosmetic laser treatments that can consist of laser hair removal, laser tattoo removal, laser wrinkle reduction, laser acne reduction, laser stretch mark removal, photofacials, chemical peels, and many more. Laser technicians will use the latest and most advanced technology to perform quality esthetic treatments on their clients. These cosmetic laser devices are designed to help rid a variety of major skin problems, including acne, scarring, sun damage, rosacea, wrinkles, stretch marks, unwanted hair, freckles, unwanted pigments, age spots, spider veins, broken capillaries large pores, and many more. However, laser technicians have to receive a certain amount of training before they can start work in the health and beauty industry.

Educational Requirements

Comprehensive laser technician training typically takes between 2-3 weeks. In order to attend a laser school, most states require a high school diploma or GED. However, there are some states that only allow doctors and nurses to perform laser treatments on clients. To find your specific state’s regulations, you can call 800.982.6817.

When searching for a laser school, you will want to attend a quality educational facility that offers both hands-on training as well as didactic classroom training. This is because it is vital to practice what you are taught in a classroom. Hands-on training allows you to understand and hone your skillsets when it comes to using and working different types of cosmetic lasers, especially when practicing on various clients within a medical spa setting.

Laser Technician Salary

This truly all depends on where you work, which we will discuss in our next session. However, we have seen hourly payment of $15-$25 an hour plus commission, commission structure only, and a salary base payment (which isn’t as common).

Career Opportunities

As a laser technician, you’re able to work in a variety of different settings within the health and beauty industry. Many laser techs have gone on to work for dermatology clinics, doctor’s offices, medical spas, salons, dentists, and more. If someone has a practice and they’re looking for a laser tech, your options may be endless.
