Report: 36% of Adults Are Considering Cosmetic Treatments In 2019
Did you know 80 percent of New Year’s resolutions fail by the second week of February?
While some people declare they will learn a new hobby or save more money, others hope to improve their self-esteem and confidence.
The health and beauty website RealSelf recently conducted a survey that found more than four in five adults in the United States want to improve their well-being or appearance in 2019. Thirty-six percent are considering the medical aesthetics industry.
Who is Considering Cosmetic Treatments?
The health and beauty website found that consideration for nonsurgical procedures is highest among women, millennials and parents with children under the age of 18. While there are several treatments to choose from, those surveyed are looking to consider:
Top Five Cosmetic Treatments Being Considered in the Next Year | Percentage |
Cosmetic Dentistry (i.e., teeth whitening) | 32% |
Laser hair removal | 30% |
Facial skin treatments (i.e., microneedling) | 25% |
Facial/lip fillers | 24% |
Botox/toxins | 21% |
The New Year’s study also looked at the primary motivations for having or considering cosmetic treatments. Among those considering procedures or had them in the past, the top motivation was to boost confidence and improve self-esteem. The desire to look as good as one feels was the second highest motivator.
Motivations for Considering Cosmetic Treatments | Overall Percentage |
To improve my self-esteem/confidence | 40% |
To look as good as I feel | 36% |
To look younger | 26% |
Help with weight loss/fat removal | 22% |
Combat aging | 22% |
Convenience and to save time/effort | 15% |
Get my body back after having children | 12% |
The results of this RealSelf survey reinforces current industry trends: More people are prioritizing self-care and aesthetics treatments are becoming apart of their beauty regimen. Due to the increase in new technologies, treatments are more affordable and accessible to clients exploring their options.
What does this mean for future aesthetics providers? Due to the increased demand in cosmetic treatments, more job opportunities are available for those seeking a new career opportunity in this $16 BILLION industry. Since these positions require an understanding of skin and tissue interaction, as well as how to operate a cosmetic laser, training is a must!
Medical aesthetics schools offer training for cosmetic lasers and injections (Botox, dermal fillers and more!) When it comes to selecting a laser training course, consider one that provides hands-on clinical training with a team of skin care specialists, cosmetic laser techs, physicians and nurses who are highly experienced in the field.
