Why Go to a School of Esthetics?

school of esthetics why go If you have been thinking about pursuing a career in beauty, you have probably looked into attending a school of esthetics. The beauty industry is full of endless possibilities. For most people, it is one of the most glamorous industries imaginable. If working directly with clients to help make their dreams a reality appeals to you, read on to find out more.

What You Learn at a School of Esthetics

A school of esthetics is an institution where a student learns how to become a licensed beauty professional. This type of school may also be known as an esthetician school or esthetics school. It is not the same thing as a cosmetology school.

Some cosmetologists may be general estheticians, but most estheticians are not cosmetologists. Cosmetologists are experts in general beauty, and estheticians are skincare specialists. Estheticians commonly perform facials, microdermabrasion, and skin analyses; cosmetologists can do hair, nails, and makeup. Keep this in mind when considering your ideal career path.

Each state has its own rules and regulations regarding esthetician licensing. However, all good esthetician schools teach students the basics of facial science, anatomy, and skincare. Students may also learn about safety and sanitation, salon management, customer service skills, and marketing.

What Happens After Attending a School of Esthetics

Once students have graduated from esthetician school, they can choose to work in many different settings. Med-spas and salons are some popular commercial options. However, estheticians can also work in clinical settings, such as plastic surgeons’ offices.

Still, estheticians are limited to working only with the superficial layers of the skin. They do not have the training to conduct any cosmetic laser treatments or inject any cosmetic fillers. In a marketplace where the demand for non-surgical options continues to grow, this can severely limit one’s income potential.

Reasons to Consider Medical Esthetics

Esthetics school is a great way to get your foot in the door to the beauty industry. However, it is not uncommon for estheticians to want to “skill up” once they have reached a certain point in their careers.

The medical esthetics industry is exciting, booming, and shows no signs of stopping any time soon — making it the natural next step for anyone looking to maximize their income potential.

Experts predict that the global medical esthetics industry will reach $22.2 billion by 2025. Plus, as if these numbers were not encouraging enough, studies have also shown that consumers will not abandon non-surgical procedures in times of economic downturn. The last recession brought about a surge in non-invasive cosmetic procedures, possibly because youth and beauty are seen as assets in the workforce.

Cosmetic Laser Technician Training

Over the years, lasers have become a more and more popular means of performing cosmetic procedures. Patients like that they are relatively pain-free and less time-intensive. Technicians like that they can choose one or two specializations and still make a considerable profit.

Salary.com reports that the average annual salary for a cosmetic laser technician is $50,905 — over $3,000 more than the average clinical esthetician’s annual salary of $47,500. Because cosmetic laser procedures are so in-demand, private practice can be incredibly profitable. For example, a technician may charge an average of $300 per session. At an average of five sessions per day, they may make up to $1,500 from laser tattoo removal alone.

Plus, almost anyone can become a cosmetic laser technician. In most states, there are only two requirements:

  1. Be 18 years old or older
  2. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent

You may also need to undergo a certain number of supervised hours of training. During our Online Comprehensive Laser Course, you will receive online classroom laser training with a variety of instructors and live demonstrations for several hours on each modality. Modalities include Laser Hair Removal, Photofacial, Laser Skin Rejuvenation, Radiofrequency Skin Rejuvenation, Coolsculpting, Cellulite Reduction, Tattoo Removal, Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, and Microneedling. Then choose one of our nationwide locations to attend your clinicals for hands-on learning!

Esthetic Injector Training

Although anyone can become a cosmetic laser technician, only medical professionals (such as nurses and physician assistants) can become esthetic injectors. This position involves administering cosmetic injectables like Botox. Many esthetic injectors are also cosmetic nurses.

Estheticians who come from medical backgrounds should jump on the chance to become esthetic injectors. Botox training is a quick and easy way to earn CE/CME credits, and adding it to your repertoire can only maximize income potential.

During our CE/CME Online Cosmetic Injections Course, you will receive online classroom and demonstrations on Botox, dermal fillers, off-label Botox and fillers, PRP, sclerotherapy, Kybella, and PDO threads. Then choose one of our nationwide locations to attend your clinicals for hands-on learning!
