Difference Between a Medical Aesthetician and a Laser Technician

Medical AestheticianIn this day and age, nonsurgical cosmetic treatments are popping up all over the place.

I’m sure you’ve seen them–laser hair removal, Botox, laser tattoo removal, cosmetic injectable fillers.

These are very fast and very inexpensive (in comparison to plastic surgery) ways to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. And because the demand for these treatments has exploded over the last decade, there is a need for cosmetic laser technicians and medical aestheticians.

But what’s the difference between a laser technician and a medical aesthetician? I know, the titles can be a bit confusing. But before you step foot into this new and booming industry, it’s important to know which certification school you should attend in order to gain the right title for your field.

Laser Technician and Laser Training

A cosmetic laser technician is someone who generally works under supervision of a medical director to perform a variety of cosmetic laser treatments, which can include laser hair removal, laser skin rejuvenation, laser tattoo removal and more. Laser technicians evaluate client’s skin, assign clients treatment plans based on their knowledge and know all about laser safety when it comes to different skin and skin treatment types.

Laser technicians need to attend a laser training course in order to earn certification. Laser training may take between a few days to 2 weeks. At National Laser Institute, we offer a 2 week comprehensive laser training course that covers a variety of in-demand laser treatments with clinical and didactic training.

This prepares future laser technicians for everything they need to know about the industry, plus the bonus of practicing with clients. Laser technicians may also attend aesthetician school before or after their laser training in order to provide a variety of different epidermal and dermal skin care treatments.

Medical AestheticianMedical Aesthetician and Medical Aesthetician Schools

A medical aesthetician is slightly different from a laser technician in one way.

Medical aestheticians are typically doctors, nurses or other medical professionals with a medical background. Because of this, medical aestheticians are able to receive training with cosmetic injectables, like Botox and dermal fillers, as well as cosmetic laser treatments.

Many states require ONLY a medical professional who is certified in cosmetic injectables to perform cosmetic injectable treatments. Medical professionals can attend a medical aesthetician school in order to receive cosmetic injectable training as well as cosmetic laser training.

National Laser Institute also offers medical professionals cosmetic injectable training with our CE/CME courses that include Botox, dermal fillers, sclerotherapy, BHRT, and many more.

National Laser Institute is the leading cosmetic laser and injectable school in the nation and is recognized as gold standard education.
