Is Esthetician School Right for You?

right choice esthetician schoolAre you considering esthetician school? Working in the beauty industry is one of the most glamorous fields most people can imagine. Moreover, many people find it personally rewarding to work directly with clients to help them bring out the best version of themselves. If you are considering pursuing a career in beauty, read on to find out more.

Why Esthetician School?

Esthetician schools are institutions that train students to become licensed beauty professionals. Another name for esthetician schools is aesthetics schools.

The rules and regulations guiding esthetician schools vary from state to state. In all esthetician schools, however, students learn the study of facial science and skincare. They may also learn about anatomy, safety and sanitation, salon management, and skin sciences.

It is important to make the distinction that esthetician school is not the same thing as cosmetology school. Although cosmetologists can be general aestheticians, most aestheticians are not cosmetologists.

While aestheticians tend to focus more on skincare, cosmetologists are beauty professionals in a broader sense. They may do hair, nails, and makeup, while estheticians focus on treating the skin. Most estheticians focus on the facial skin, although some also perform procedures for the body. It is important to keep this in mind when deciding your career path.

What Can You Do After?

After graduating from esthetician school, students may work as estheticians in a wide array of settings. They may work in more commercial settings, such as salons and spas, or more clinical facilities, such as plastic surgeons’ offices.

However, estheticians can only work with the superficial layers of the skin. They are not trained to conduct any cosmetic laser treatments and cannot administer any cosmetic injectables, such as Botox and Kybella. The most common services offered by estheticians are acne treatments, body treatments, facials, makeup application, microdermabrasions, and waxing.

Why Medical Aesthetics?

Many people want to “skill up” after esthetician school, especially once they have become established in their field. For many, medical aesthetics is the natural next step. The exciting emerging field of medical aesthetics shows no signs of stopping any time soon and is an easy way for anyone to maximize their income potential.

According to a recent report, the global medical aesthetics industry is expected to reach $22.2 billion by 2025. There is little indication that the recent news cycle of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic or U.S. recession will affect these numbers. In fact, the last recession saw an uptick in non-surgical procedures. In times of economic downturn, workers turn to cosmetic treatments to ensure job security.

Cosmetic Laser Technician Training

Lasers are becoming an increasingly popular way of performing cosmetic procedures. Patients like them because they are relatively pain-free and less time-intensive than other options.

Technicians like them because it is easy to choose one or two specializations and still turn a sizable profit. For instance, you may choose to specialize as a technician who only does laser tattoo removal. If you charge an average of $300 per session and perform five sessions a day, you can make up to $1500 from laser tattoo removal alone!

According to Salary.com, cosmetic laser technicians make an average of $50,905 a year. Compare this to a clinical aesthetician’s salary of $47,500 a year and you can quickly see the appeal of “skilling up”!

Anyone can become a cosmetic laser technician. Most states have the same basic rules and regulations for cosmetic laser technicians. You must:

  • Be eighteen years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • It is also important to undergo a certain number of supervised hours of training

During our Online Comprehensive Laser Course, you will receive online classroom laser training with a variety of instructors and live demonstrations with several hours on each modality. Modalities include Laser Hair Removal, Photofacial, Laser Skin Rejuvenation, Radiofrequency Skin Rejuvenation, Coolsculpting, Cellulite Reduction, Tattoo Removal, Radiofrequency Skin Tightening, and Microneedling. Then choose one of our nationwide locations to attend your clinicals for hands-on learning!

Aesthetic Injector Certification After Esthetician School

Anyone can become a cosmetic laser technician, but only medical professionals can become aesthetic injectors. They can inject cosmetic fillers, such as Botox, Kybella, Juvederm, and more. Nurses and physician assistants frequently become aesthetic injectors. Consequently, any aesthetics injectors are also aesthetic/cosmetic nurses.

If you are an aesthetician with a medical background, aesthetic injector certification is a no-brainer. For medical professionals, aesthetic injector certification can only maximize income potential. Botox training is also a quick and easy way to earn CE/CME credits. With the National Laser Institute, you can complete your training in as little as two days.

During our CE/CME Online Cosmetic Injections Course, you will receive online classroom and demonstrations on Botox, dermal fillers, off label Botox and fillers, PRP, sclerotherapy, Kybella, and PDO threads. Then choose one of our nationwide locations to attend your clinicals for hands-on learning!
